The Leq’a:mel Development Corporation Board of Directors and staff would sincerely like to thank everyone at Michels Canada including Jason Woodman-Simmonds / Indigenous Relations Liason as well as Project Director, Superintendents, Project Managers and President as well as all of the Michels staff that supported this generous $20,000.00 contribution to the long awaited Community Childcare facility here at Leq’a:mel Fist Nation which is currently under construction.

The efforts of Michels Canada show your tremendous social commitment and thank you for planning and hosting the events that generated the friendly competition between Team 6 and 7A crews and also to engage the Corporate level. It is so appreciated and inspirational. The funds raised will be used by the Leq’a:mel First Nation Childcare facility to purchase much needed appliances and furnishings that will contribute to the facility’s operation for years to come and
greatly support the provision of quality child care for all children, parents and staff.

The Leq’a:mel Development Corporation has had a very positive experience working with Michels Canada and we wish to thank you for your work on the TransMountain Pipeline Expansion Project (TMEP) and we certainly look forward to continuing our strong and collaborative business relationship well into the future within the Leq’a:mel Traditional Territory, as well as beyond.

Thank you for providing career and training for community members and providing supply- and service-related business opportunities for Leq’a:mel member owned businesses and LDLP business ventures.

*PRESS RELEASE*

Michels Canada and Trans Mountain Project teams engaged in friendly competition to raise $20,000.00 for the Leq’a:mel First Nation’s Daycare in a fundraising Challenge.

The teams are working on Spreads 6 & 7A of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP) in British Columbia.
On May 7th, the Spread 7A team raised $3,875.00 during a BBQ lunch hosted by TMEP at a BBQ hosted by TMEP. The following Saturday, the Spread raised $9240.00 at its TMEP lunch. Following the contest, Michels Canada donated $6885.00

With $20,000.00 raised to support a new daycare, the real winners are the children and families of Leq’á:mel First Nation and the neighbouring community of Deroche.

“The new facility means that our families and the families of Deroche will have an affordable option for childcare right in the community,” said Ron Smith, CEO of the Leq’á:mel Development Corporation, “I would like to thank the Michels Canada and Trans Mountain team for their support. The funds raised will go towards new appliances and other furnishings for the daycare.”

Located approximately 20 kms east of Mission, British Columbia on the north side of the Fraser River, Leq’á:mel First Nation has approximately 600 members while the community of Deroche has approximately 1000 residents. Leq’á:mel’s traditional territory extends south across the Fraser River and is intersected by Spread 6 of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. “Social responsibility is a cornerstone of our values,” said Chris Pezoulas, Michels Canada Project Director for both Spreads. “The fundraiser was another way to show our commitment to the communities where we live and work. We were happy to raise money in support for the daycare. Thank you to all of our employees and to the team who contributed to this worthy cause.”
